If you’ve visited Walkerstrails in recent months you’ve probably noticed some changes. Bit by bit I’ve been redesigning my site and moving from my old site powered by Expression Engine to my new site powered by WordPress. Now I liked Expression Engine but it just became too hard whenever I wanted to change anything. So I revisited WordPress.
Now I still have my old templates but since I’d still be trying to set things up with them I ended up choosing a theme from Gabfire Themes which was extremely easy to load up and start using.
To start with I started setting it up as a test site leaving my old site up while I tinkered. Quite frankly I was surprised by how quickly things started to take shape. The biggest part of the whole move were the image galleries and the journal entries. Now there are plugins available to port entries from an existing site to a WordPress site for just about every other CMS out there that you could be using. Except Expression Engine.
So I ended up doing things the hard way, copying the entries from my existing site into the new framework. While it wasn’t that hard it was time consuming. Next up was figuring out how the image galleries worked and in the end I decided it was easier to just reload the Image Galleries as well.
There was a slight hitch when I took down my old site and put up this one, I still do not quite know what I did wrong. Random images from the galleries went, well, missing. Still that’s all fixed now. The rest is just tinkering.
So this was a rather long winded way to point out that I’ve finished redesigning Walkerstrails, other than a bit of tinkering. So if you haven’t seen the new site already drop by and check it out and let me know what you think, or if there are lucking gremlins that I haven’t discovered yet!
Otherwise the first trip for 2013 will be to Japan starting from 16 March!
