I was exchanging emails with a fellow traveller and in the course of the exchange we of course gave an update of our current location. The reply to this update in the next email was along the lines of
´Mompos, what are you doing there? There´s nothing there!´
You know sometimes when one travels, that is the point.
‘Mañana me salida Cartagena por Mompos en el Coche? Hora el Coche salida? Cuanto Cuesta? Reserva?’
That was me trying to speak to the receptionist at my hostel to arrange transport to Mompos. Terrible right? Still I was quite happy since despite my really limited Spanish I managed to arrange for the transport.
The choice today was between La Playa Blanca or Volcan Del Totumo. So between a beach and taking a mud bath. So of course I chose the mud bath since I’ve sat around on beaches before but I haven’t had a mud bath.
Makes sense right? You’d choose the mud bath over sitting on a beautiful beach on the Caribbean coast. Right?
Today I went for a walk around the old town of Cartagena, taking in the sights and sounds of the old city. I walked back towards the wall where I’d been the night before to see it all during the day.
Then I doubled back and went to a museum with a fascinating display from the Inquisition.
Alright I admit it. Sometimes when traveling one ends up somewhere totally by mistake. It’s happened before and I have no doubt that it will happen again.
Not that I didn’t intend to come to Cartagena eventually. I just got on the bus with the intention of going to Santa Rosa then on to Taganga first.
