Airfare Frustration

Ok so perhaps I shouldn’t get frustrated by the price of airfares in Australia. Maybe I should be used to it. After all it has always been this way in Australia.

What am I talking about you ask?

Domestic airfares. Or at least the price of them. I jumped online the other day checking out the various websites of different airlines. Yes I know there are search engines that will supposedly pull up the best airfare but quite frankly I’ve found them to be a joke. I haven’t really found that they do pull up the best fare and for the most part they seem to have a bias to a particular airline. So while I do test them out every now and then to see if they have gotten any better I tend to find that going direct to the airlines own website is cheaper. If a somewhat more lengthy process.

Finally.  It’s done.  I worked out, with a little help once more from 5pieces, how to get the playlist function with the video to work!  After quite a bit of tinkering I got the player up on the home page with the video playing successfully.  Still no matter how much I tried I just could not get the player with the playlist to work on the actual video page.

The Trails New Clothes

I’m sure you’re all staring at my site tapping your finger thoughtfully on your lip.  Knowing that something has changed since your last visit but unable to work out what it is.

Well I’ll let you in on the secret.

Walker’s Trails has new clothes!

I changed the template yesterday to give the site a whole new look.  Isn’t it pretty?

I still have a lot of work to do.  Oh most of the work as far as the template is done, lets face it the content is the same I just have a bit of tinkering.  Like the picture up the top will be changed eventually to one of my own.  Before anyone mentions it yes I know the map on the map page is too big.  I have to tinker with that too!  I also have to work on the links at the bottom of each page and well… I’m sure you’ve got the idea.

Moments In the World

So news of sorts.  This time of the website variety.

I’ve finally done it….

I’ve set up the website for video content.

Oh all right so there is still quite a bit of work to do (read hours and hours of work) to get it set up properly.  Still it works!

First I had to get around the problem that I do not actually own a video camera.  So with a bit of work (quite a bit really since I did not know how to use the program in the first place) I managed to create my very first video using some of my photo’s, some music and a few words here and there.  Considering that this is the first time I have ever done anything like this I am quite happy with the results.

Get FlashPlayer to see this player

Next was doing all that back end stuff so I could play the video on my site.  At this point I must say thank you to 5pieces for the great tutorial.  Following his instructions I managed, with a little hair pulling I must admit though said hair pulling was all my fault, to get it up and running.  The video even plays!

So if you want to see my weekends efforts it is up on the home page.

Now as said I still have a lot of work to do to integrate it fully but the main work is done…. YAY! LOL

The Plane, The Plane

March 7th - Today I booked my flights on line, and paid for them.  Everything is fitting together nicely.  I fly from Kalgoorlie to Perth, spend a couple of hours in Perth to get any last minute shopping, then Perth to Singapore.  I opted for a 6 hour stopover in Singapore as I have not been there yet and am sure I could amuse myself in that time.  Then it is off to Frankfurt, where I will catch a train (the train station is attached to the airport.  How conveniant) to Hamburg.  I stay in Hamburg and surrounds for about 3 weeks before I have to start heading home again.  The trip home is the exact opposite of going there.  No special detours and only enough time in Singapore to catch the next plane (thus the choice to spend 6 hours there on arrival).  The fares were much cheaper than I expected.  Less than $3000 for the whole trip from Kalgoorlie to Hamburg and return.  I also purchased my travel insurance on line so am set with that too!

March 8th - Went to Kalgoorlie today and got my international drivers licence.  YAY!

March 12th - I discovered Commonwealth Bank Travellers Money… a card I can purchase Euro’s on and use in their ATM’s… How easy is that?  I purchased a couple of thousand Euro and am almost set!

Bis spater… (see you later)
