Frequently Asked Questions

Ok so there are some Questions that are commonly asked, even before the creation of this website. So I thought I would just add this page to save myself from answering the same questions over and over again. I will be updating this as I go along so feel free to send me an email, details on the ‘Contact Me’ page, if there is a question you want answered about travel or the site.

Why on earth are you going there?

Because I haven’t been there yet, because I can, I want to, it’s fascinating and I want to see the people and the culture. The list is endless. I just love to travel and explore. It is an intriguing and beautiful world we live in and the least I can do is see some of it.

Where are you going next?

My next trip is still in the planning and frantically saving mode. I plan to go to Egypt hopefully for about 4 weeks in March 2009.  I’m not sure if I will be going on a trip this year or not but if I do it will be a short trip in October.  I’ll keep you posted

What other trips are you planning?

At the end of 2010 / 2011 I have tentative plans for my next RTW. If I can swing the time off, 12 months, I will be traveling throughout Central and South America.

All is still going well in the planning side I have my long service leave.  Now I just need to save the money.  A friend of mine has Long Service Leave due mid 2010 so plans are cooking to meet up and travel together for all or part of the trip.

How did you make this website?

I have no idea........

Seriously, I really don’t.

I spent hours trialing pre designed travel journals and did not really like them. So when this inspired idea hit me it did not take me long to realize that I had absolutely no idea how to do it. I started checking out other travelers websites, blog software, website building software, website hosts, photo gallery software……

I still did not have any idea so I did the only sane thing. I looked around my friends and finding the one with the required skills, and called him incessantly every time I had a question or something went wrong.

I have recently done an overhaul of the site and it is now powered in Expression Engine. I chose this program because I could do my whole site on this platform, basic design of pages, photo gallery and travel journal. Previously I was using three separate programs to do that and it was like trying to learn three different languages all at once. Very frustrating.

The only other factor was an insane amount of time on my computer and online trying to make the whole thing work!

Why did you create this website?

Why? that question has already been answered on the home page and on this one I guess. I’m planning my next RTW trip for 2010 / 2011 so primarily I want this up and running for that trip. This is a work in progress really.

You see if I start building it now I can trial it on my next trip, in November, then fix up what I do not like or what does not work. That gives me a year to work on the site before my next trip. The process then repeats itself.

Hopefully it will be fully functional by the time my RTW happens. That’s the plan anyway.

............ and yes it really will take me that long to work this all out. As I’ve said I know nothing about building websites!

Do you always travel alone?

No. Some trips I go away with friends other times I go alone. It all depends on who else has holidays I guess and whether they have any interest in going to the same country. Even some of the trips where I went alone I did not really plan it that way, it just happened. For one reason or another the people I was going overseas with changed their plans, no money, changing jobs, inability to get leave from work… etc etc.

Still even the times I have gone overseas alone there are so many people traveling all aver the world that I have only been alone when I chose to be.

How much does it cost?

I’m amazed by how many times this question is asked.  It’s also an extreemely hard question to answer.  How much your trip will cost will depend on too many factors that I can not really give you an answer.

I intended to list the costs of my last trip to Thailand however did not really get it up and running properly.  So the idea is on hold for now.  Maybe in the future if I can get it all up and running.
