Ok so I know its taken me close to a year to get my act together and get this done but the video’s from the trip to Thailand in 2007 are finally up. Both in the associated journal pages and the video page. The videos appearing on the main journal page is one of the new design features of the site. I thought I’d best explain that since that is why some of the video’s might have some strange titles. They are the titles of the actual journal entries they are associated with.
In future that should hopefully make more sense. Or maybe not who knows but that is the ‘why’ if you were wondering. There are six videos from my time in Thailand the longest is probably the Erawan Waterfall video the shortest the Hill Tribes Trek Video.
I’ve certainly learnt quite a bit from the process. In order to have something to edit you really do need to take that camera out of your bag and film everything and I mean that quite literally. You can then pick and choose between your content and you have options. You’ll see the problem with not taking video highlighted throughout but mainly in the Hill Tribes Trek video.
Second be aware of the noise around you. Unless you have a wireless microphone hooked up the best vocal will come from the person holding the camera. You may not notice the noise of the waterfall in the background after the first few moments. You become used to it. Your camera will not. That is really highlighted in the Waterfall video. Even something as simple as background traffic and others talking in the waiting area can have an impact. That is highlighted in the Hill Tribes Trek video.
Of course other things can impact even what there are not to many background noises. Like the habit of speaking softly because its early and your the only ones up in the guest house. You’ll see that in the Elephant Trek video.
Now with video editing software you can usually do a voice over. So I’ve done that as well so you can see the results - my hack results - that’s in the Hill Tribes Trek Video.
Anyway I’ve left the original sound track in for a number of reasons. I guess so some of you who could be thinking of doing the same can see some of the issues. Its basic I know, I think I was even aware of those small little things before the Thailand Trip but somehow still made the same mistakes. The other reason is that I still have to have a play with Garageband and/or Soundtrack to see what I can come up with.
Next videos off the rank will be the New York footage. Not sure how that is going to go. Given that it was a different type of trip we took the video out even less than on the Thailand trip!
