Boats and Hotels

Things are surprisingly organised for me this time round and the plans are coming together.  There is 7 of us with a possibility of another two joining us, hopefully we’ll have the numbers of the group sorted out in the next week or so.

Due to the numbers of our group expanding we get a Dahabiyya so that is booked with the deposit paid, I’m really looking forward to the sail down the Nile and can not wait for May to rock around.

I’ve also booked a guest house in Dubai.  Now that was a hard thing to decide on.  What type of ‘experience’ I wanted in Dubai given we’re only there for a couple of days.  There are so many big, expensive hotels where the level of luxury is bordering on the ridiculous, bordering on obscene.  Ok so perhaps I’m only saying that because I can not see spending or afford $3000.00 odd dollars to stay one night in a hotel.  Well actually I could but I wouldn’t be doing much else!  Now while I’m sure the experience would be sublime, well, its not going to be my experience in Dubai.  At least not this time.  Perhaps if I ever win lotto and end up with more money than sense I will give it a whirl.

Still that left me with a problem.  I searched and searched for a hotel and one by one discarded them.  I figured if I couldn’t afford the ‘ultimate luxury’ hotels that Dubai is famous for then what was the point in staying in the average 5 star, lets face it they tend to be the same world over.  Don’t get me wrong I like a little luxury, particularly at the beginning of my trip!  Still a little more searching turned up the Orient Guest House.

I really liked the look of this place when I saw the pictures so that is where we’re staying.  With a heading exclaiming ‘Experience old Arabia’ how could I not?
